In addressing the opening ceremony of the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund Forum 2016, the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, said that social capital is built through human interaction, mutual trust and mutual help. Mr Cheung pointed out that the Government has all along been committed to supporting the building of social capital. In addressing the farewell and welcome ceremony of the 21st Airport Ambassador Programme (AAP), the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, said that AAP was a flagship programme jointly organised by the Youth Employment and Training Programme of the Labour Department, Youth Employment Network of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, and the Airport Authority Hong Kong. Since 2002, AAP has been providing professional and diversified on-the-job trainings to over 1 000 youths who strive to pursue their careers in aviation, hotel and tourism industries. Mr Cheung was pleased to note that trainees had achieved outstanding performances in various professions after the completion of the on-the-job trainings.

In addressing the 2016 Welfare Agenda and Priorities Setting Exercise, the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, delivered a speech entitled "Community Partnership in Challenging Times: Co-building a Caring, Compassionate and Cohesive Society". He highlighted that the government and various stakeholders in the community, including members of the social welfare sector, should join hands to construct a society that embraces the value of caring, compassion, empowerment and cohesiveness.

When exchanging views with hundreds of workers from the social welfare sector, Mr Cheung (left) cited examples to illustrate the fact that the current-term government attached great importance to social welfare in the past four years. He also stressed that elderly care and poverty alleviation topped the government’s agenda. He added that collaboration among different sectors in the society, including members of the social welfare sector and The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) would be much needed. Next to Mr Cheung is the Chief Executive of the HKCSS, Mr Chua Hoi-wai.

The outgoing Consul-General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macao, Mr J. Ian Burchett, bids farewell to the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung. Noting that Canada is Hong Kong’s only Working Holiday Scheme (WHS) partner in the Americas at the moment, Mr Cheung is glad that more than 1 200 Hong Kong youths had visited Canada under the WHS as at end-2015.

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, speaks at the launching ceremony of "Elderly Visit 2016" under Project LOL organised by A.S. Watson Group at Hong Kong Sports Institute in Sha Tin this morning. The event is one of the highlighted programmes of the Government's "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign. The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung (first left), visited the Working Family Allowance Office (WFAO) of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency in Kwun Tong this morning.
